How To Make A Wired Keyboard Wireless
If you want to benefit from the wireless design of your keyboard, then buying a wireless model is not the only way to do that. I am going to share a few simple methods with you that will help you make your wired keyboard wireless effortlessly from the comfort of your home.
Using Micro-Controllers And Transmitters
The first thing that you need to do to turn your wired keyboard into a wireless model is to remove the keyboard from the computer. Once your keyboard is disconnected, then you can proceed with the rest of the steps. After that is done, then you will need to connect some microcontrollers to your keyboard. Keep in mind that you pick a microcontroller that is compatible with your model of keyboard. In case your computer’s keyboard does not have a USB port, then you will need to remove the screws of the keyboard to uncover the USB port.
Therefore, if your model of the keyboard does not have a USB port, then the second step is to remove the screws from the keyboard. Make sure to keep the screws safe, as you will need to put them back once the whole job is done. Once the microcontroller is in place then comes the next step, which is to insert the second microcontroller into the computer or laptop’s USB port. You need to make sure that you use the same microcontrollers on your laptop and keyboard and that they both have the same frequency; otherwise, they will not receive the signal.
Once both radio transmitting microcontrollers are in place, then you need to put the body of the keyboard back in its place. Put the back in its place and screw it properly to make sure that no part falls out. After the keyboard is screwed back, your wireless keyboard is ready. Now, you can easily use your wired keyboard as a wireless keyboard.
The second method of turning a wired keyboard into a wireless model is by taking the aid of Bluetooth. To convert your wired keyboard into a wireless model through Bluetooth, the first thing that you will need is a Bluetooth dongle. Along with a Bluetooth dongle, you also need a USB port on your keyboard. If your keyboard does not come with a USB port in its design, then you will need to insert one. In order to do that, you will need to remove the back lid of the keyboard. Make sure to keep the screws in a secure place so that you do not lose them.
After that is done, then you need to buy a USB port hub and open it. Remove one USB port with its wires from the hub, make sure that you do not damage any of the wires. After removing a port from the hub, solder the wires of the USB port to the keyboard chip. Once you have soldered the USB port to the keyboard, all you need to do is make a small hole in the keyboard’s body for the port. After the small hole is formed, push the USB port from the hole in a way that the port side faces outwards.
Put the back lid of the keyboard back in its place and screw it shut. Make sure to screw it tightly. Once it is properly screwed back in its place, you can flip it the right way and insert the Bluetooth dongle into the USB port. After inserting the Bluetooth dongle, you can go to the settings on your PC and connect the keyboard to the PC through Bluetooth settings.
Things To Keep In Mind
The first and the most important thing that you need to make sure of is to disconnect the wired keyboard from the system before you start unscrewing it. This will keep you safe from electric shocks and will also keep your keyboard safe from burning up. In addition to that, you need to make sure that you purchase and use the right parts, such as microcontrollers, that are compatible with your model of keyboard and have the right frequency. Moreover, keep the screws that you remove from the keyboard in a safe place so that you do not lose them.
Benefits Of Wireless Keyboard
The first and the most important advantage of a wireless keyboard is that you do not have to deal with the hassle of wires and cords. In addition to that, wireless keyboards also occupy a smaller space on your desk. You can use them easily and take them anywhere, as thanks to the wireless design, portability becomes much easier.
In addition to that, thanks to the no-wire design of the keyboard, you also do not have to deal with twisted or broken wires and cords that interfere with your job. Moreover, wireless keyboards are also better for people who have muscular pains as they can type comfortably in any position that suits them.
Problems Of Turning Wired Keyboard Into Wireless
The biggest problem that arises when you turn a wired keyboard into a wireless model is the removal of the USB cord. Most of the time, the wire is soldered to the keyboard, which is why it requires a lot of patience and practice to remove the USB cord without damaging the keyboard.
In addition to that, another problem of turning a wired keyboard into a wireless one is that of battery. The models of keyboards that have a wireless design by default come with a battery added in the design. The said battery needs to be fully charged for the keyboard to function properly. The microcontrollers that are used to turn the wired model into a wireless one have battery life. As they can not be charged, you will need to replace them after a while. Therefore, they need to be changed regularly for the keyboard to work well.
Turning Wireless Keyboard Back Into Wired
Just as easily as you turned your wired keyboard into a wireless model, you can also turn that wireless model back into a wired keyboard. You will need to open the keyboard to remove the microcontrollers that you have installed on the keyboard. After that, you will need to solder the USB wire back into the design of the keyboard. Once the wire is back in its place, your keyboard is ready to be used as a wired keyboard.
